o2o is committed to maintaining the health, safety and welfare of our employees, customers and others who may be affected by our business activities. Managers are responsible for the effective management of health and safety which includes conducting risk assessments and taking preventative action to provide a safe environment in which to work to achieve the best for both our people and our group.
Among the key features are:
- considering health and safety issues through the design, maintenance and operation of our warehousing and distribution fleet;
- supplying safe and reliable products and services to the market-place;
- working to prevent incidents by engaging with employees and contractors and educating them in the implementation of our policy; and
- integrating health and safety considerations into business decisions from the planning stage onwards.
During the year an independent review of health and safety of the main warehouses was undertaken and recommendations were fed back to the Board and senior management as part of a health and safety training programme. A risk assessment process is maintained to ensure that assessments are prioritised, followed through and reviewed periodically. An independent third party has been appointed to extend risk assessment and audit to other areas of the business during 2008.
Employees
o2o employs approximately 800 people. Their welfare and safety is a key priority and the Group actively encourages staff involvement in the development of our business activities.
Employees are treated with fairness and respect. They are encouraged and supported in their development at work and provided with relevant training. All staff are expected to maintain high standards of work and behaviour and to display integrity in their dealings with customers, suppliers and each other. A code of business ethics is applied and maintained.
